The Eccles family has been lucky enough to visit northern Italy in 2004, and spend a week at Riva del Garda, at the north end of Lake Garda.

The following photographs show some of the excitement and atmosphere of the area.

The images are titled as you move your mouse over them (clicking on the small images will take you to a higher quality version opened in a new window - close the window to return).

We start with some views of Riva del Garda and Venice. These will soon be followed by other views of the area.

The Astoria Park Hotel where we were fortunate enough to stay for the week Looking from Riva to the Lake The harbour area
Another view of Lake Garda from Riva The sailing is very popular - a regatta meant that lots of yachts were in town The yachts lined up nicely for this photograph
The harbour and the Hotel Europa by night A shop full of local goodies like Limoncello and grappa The Cafe - Bar Smile where we had excellent lunch time snacks
Another day, another view of the lake as the weather changes Riva has gardens too beneath the mountains The beach on Lake Garda is pebbly, but popular
There are more people in this view of the beach at Riva The square at Riva from which the ferry departs Hazy weather gives a different feel to the lake, but the scenery remains magnificent

And now some views of Venice.

Looking towards Piazza San Marc from the Grand Canal The Piazza San Marco St. Marks Basilica from Piazza San Marco
A stop at Florians to watch the world go by is worth every euro - and you will use many of them! And looking back on the Grand Canal The Rialto bridge
Another Grand Canal view - I love the blue poles! I was really surprised at the shops on the Rialto bridge, and how wide it is The gondolas were very smart!
Some artistic work on a gondola A gondolier - doesn't he look the part? The busy waterside

Photographs of Verona, the Dolomites and other towns on the lake will follow very shortly.
