Now by comparison with the other gardens that are featured here, my garden is a very modest and unkempt affair. But it is a glorious space in a busy world, and keeps me out of mischief for significant parts of the year.

The garden is on a south facing slope and somewhat less that half an acre (0.2 ha) including the area occupied by our house. It divides naturally into four compartments - a "front" garden between house and road (in reality this is the back of the house, as all the main rooms face the other way); a patio and lawn garden; a woodland zone; and my so-called vegetable garden at the foot of main garden.

There are mature hornbeams and old apple trees, and the garden is surrounded by deciduous hedges, mainly hornbeam again, but gradually infiltrated with other natural species over the years such as beech, holly, yew, hawthorn etc.

The following photographs have been taken in the last few years and quite deliberately avoid the disaster areas (although the observant will notice some things in the background)! I've separated the pictures of wildlife in the garden onto a different page.

In earley 2006 we are having a garden makeover. Follow the progress on the makeover page.

The images are titled as you move your mouse over them (clicking on the small images will take you to a higher quality version opened in a new window - close the window to return).
